Manong Pepe's in front of the Philippine Stock Exchange in Ortigas

Manong Pepe's, a subsidiary of Jollibee Foods Corporation, is nearing it's anniversary now. And lot of branches have opened across Metro Manila. I was particularly surprised to see this branch in Ortigas, right in front of the Philippine Stock Exchange Building.

I ate breakfast there some weeks ago, before heading to Clark Pampanga for the Auction.ph event. I ordered the Beef Tapa with rice and egg (Php 54.00) from the breakfast menu and a Sago't Gulaman drink (Php 17.00).

It wasn't that wow-great. The tapa's overcooked, but for what it's worth, I say that it's something that would make your hunger go away? (hehe) The Sago't Gulaman's yummy though :)

Tokyo Cafe in Mall of Asia before heading to the Senate of the Philippines

First time I tried Tokyo Cafe, I was with fellow Foodistas Harrell and Joey in SM North Edsa. This time around I was with Barbie, Malin, Reg and Tenai for a supposed (well it was!) group lunch meeting for our policy analysis paper before heading to the Senate to meet Senator Aquino and Senator Roxas this time around.

Anyway, my friends would always like to leave it up to me to pick where we'll be eating (always! o.O) since they say I should know where it is best to eat, and to "use the Foodista in you." But little do they know, I really don't like deciding where to eat for a group of people - especially when it's an impromptu decision I have to do.

That fact aside, we ended up eating in Tokyo Cafe - one safe decision, I guess. :)

Mango Chicken Salad (Php 170) - Chicken salad, ripe mango, grapes and romaine lettuce

Shrimp Aglio Olio (Php 240) - Medium-spiced pasta with hot green peppers, garlic, and shrimp sautéed in olive oil

Kani Crab Sandwich

And a Chicken Burger (Sorry, I forgot what the name of this dish was) for Ms. Gepte

Over-all it was a little bit pricey, but the food was comforting. In the end, we added an extra order of french fries to satisfy everyone's craving (after we all devoured Reg and Tenai's plate of fries).

You can also visit Manila Foodistas' Restaurant Review | Tokyo Cafe for more information about this restaurant. :)

Volcom T-Shirt Artwork Contest for Filipino Artists

Here's your chance to become a featured artist for a global brand.

Over the last decade, Volcom has provided a platform for aspiring artists to express themselves through the Featured Artist Series line of products. Mark Appleyard, Michael Sieben, Mitchell Froelich, Todd Bratrud and Michael J. Zepeda are only some of the independent artists previously tapped by Volcom.

The chosen Volcom artist is then tasked to design T-shirts and a range of other accessories such as hats, wallets, and belts as well as boardshorts, sweatshirts and woven/knit shirts. The Featured Artist Series line is released in Volcom outlets worldwide.

Following the theme, "Why are you hurting your neighborhood? What's wrong with you?" Volcom is now inviting local Filipino artists to turn in an original design that answers the question for the chance to be part of Volcom's Featured Artist Series line.

In line with this, bloggers and media friends were invited to the launch of this project weeks ago and got to try to create their very own Volcom T-shirt design embodying its campaign/theme for the contest in an impromptu contest. The winner was submitted to the contest.

The chosen designer will be featured by Volcom and enjoy the following awesome perks:
  • A cash prize of Php 25,000.00
  • A Php 10,000 shopping spree of Volcom stuff from Aloha Boardsports.
  • Plus, media mileage and bragging rights for holding the title of being a Volcom Featured Artist
You can use any art or graphics medium. Just be sure to submit it in the following formats:

There's going to be a night market too! This market/food fest will showcase various food (home cooked dishes, organic veggies and fruits, bbq, seafood, etc).

It will also be a place where new chefs and entrepreneurs are encouraged to introduce their products or where people can sell their home cooked specialties during weekends. Don't worry, there will be a dining area around so that people can hang out and eat their hearts out! Sounds fun? So let's check this out! :)

Oktoberfest 2008

Last September 05, San Miguel Oktoberfest, siento bente or 120 days of pure beer and fun, kicked off at the San Miguel avenue in Ortigas.

San Miguel gunned for the longest beer grill/bar which stretched the long of San Miguel Avenue. They also sought a spot in the biggest beer raising or toasting at one given time.

It was only in the 300-peso air-conditioned tent did they sell the Oktoberfest beer. It was there also where the darting and the other beer-drinking games happened.

Rivermaya and other opm bands opened and graced the event.

Host Derek Ramsay with Mayor Abalos, and San Miguel Corporation President Ramon Ang

Migs and Rog played during the event!

..and this was what everyone was waiting for - THIRD EYE BLIND! :)

Chinese Mooncake Festival: 中秋節

Today's 中秋節, the Mid-Autumn Festival or more commonly known as the Mooncake festival to younger generations of Chinese descent. This is the time of the year when the Filipino-Chinese community are busy celebrating the festival by playing the famed dice-game.

Back in my younger/grade school days, we always play the dice game in school. But as we grew older, we didn't get to play it anymore; but instead, we had alternative activities, such as painting contest, and other related contests and activities to celebrate the occasion.

Now that we're already in college, in the UP Chinese Student Association, this time of the year signals our annual event of Mooncake dice game for both Filipinos and other interested people and Chinese students to play the popular dice game and enjoy the culture.

Today, my Gua Ma came down from Dagupan to be with us in Manila. She brought us some Mooncake too. I love this time of the year because the supply of Mooncakes overflow -- I just love to eat 月餅!

Funnel Cake Factory

I was intrigued by this appetizing treat when I first saw it in Glorietta 4 food court. But because of some reason I have already forgotten, I wasn't able to buy and taste Funnel Cake Factory.

But some Sunday back, we saw this in Unimart, Greenhills. It's a recent addition to the food stalls right before you enter the strip of stores from Unimart going to the V-Mall. I knew that that was the right time to convinced my parents to buy and taste this at long last.

We got the Caramel Almond and the Nutty Chocolate. Caramel Almond stands out, and is a winner -- though I would love a scoop of my favorite vanilla ice cream melt on top of it. Yumm :)

Starbucks Food Find

Have you tried the yummy Chicken Mango Wrap at Starbucks?

Last Sunday, after the Nike 10K Human Race, I finally got the chance to do so. Now I know why Achi Fran really loves this "chicken with green curry and mango sweetness combined in a wrap that will surely give you a surprise" concoction. :3

She suggests that you try it with a frapp drink.
I tried mine with my fave, Caramel Macchiato.

In other news, I would love that you have a bite of our cookie.
