Endorsement 101 for Presidential, Vice Presidential, Senatorial and Local candidates

I wonder if there’s a text, document, research or book that would show the trends, how-to’s and other pertinent information on strategizing on endorsers for your own electoral campaign, or for people to know how to effectively, efficiently and, of course, economically endorse your own candidates, both for local and national positions. That sure will be one hit piece of reading for your politicos, or wannabe politician.

In a report by Jing Castañeda of ABS-CBN, released yesterday night by TV Patrol World, the latest surveys show that people would not vote for a candidate who will be endorsed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, and former President Fidel V. Ramos. It has no positive effect, instead, it will prove to be unpalatable for the voters if certain personalities endorse who they will vote for this coming May 2010 elections.

According to that report, 51% of the voters will surely not vote for a candidate who will be endorsed by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. This surely backs up what was rumored as a “kiss of death,” for a politician who identifies or brands himself or herself with the President. Mon Casiple, a political analyst, said that, “it worsened when she decided to run again for Congress, and perpetuate herself in power.”

On the other hand, 41% of the voters will surely not vote for a candidate who will be endorsed by former President Fidel V. Ramos, according to the same survey report.

It was also made clear that those endorsed by religious leaders, or those claiming to be one, such as Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and Brother Mike Velarde, will have negative effects on the voters. 44% of the voters will surely not for a candidate who will be endorsed by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, while 41% of the voters said that they will surely not vote for candidates endorsed by El Shaddai’s Brother Mike Velarde.

In the same report, celebrity endorsers also prove to have negative effects on their endorsements. 41% of the voters will surely not vote for candidates endorsed by People’s Champ Manny Pacquiao, 35% said that they will surely not vote for candidates endorsed by Wowowee’s Willie Revillame, while 31% of the voters said they will surely not vote candidates who will be endorsed by veteran comedian-actor Dolphy.

Instead, only the candidates endorsed by Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who was supposedly running for the presidency this 2010 elections but later backed out, and actress and talk-show host Kris Aquino, have the possibility to be voted for by the voters. 39% of the voters said that they would probably vote for candidates endorsed by Sen. Chiz Escudero, while 31% said that they would probably vote for candidates endorsed by Kris Aquino.

Still the largest positive rating at 40%, voters said that they would probably vote for candidates endorsed by the church that they belong in.

It was also noted that political advertisements and endorsements aren’t enough to sway or convince voters to vote for a particular candidate. They say that the voters now are more mature and they make their choices after careful selection from the candidates’ pool.

Personally, I do not believe in surveys because they only offer a snapshot of a certain group of people at a particular time, when the survey was taken. The real survey, as people have already said, will still be on the Election Day on May 10.

Surveys, admit it or not, just frame the mindsets of people, and would favor the leading candidate or “the lesser of the two evils,” as one candidate who is also running for President has retorted in a recent statement.

In fact, in my opinion, it should be reviewed and studied if COMELEC, in the future, can ban the release of these surveys in the public, to level the playing field and so that it would not influence, intentionally or unintentionally, the choice of the people; instead, they should focus more on the platform, and other pertinent characteristics one is looking for in the leader of this nation.

For now, both Kris Aquino and Senator Chiz Escudero are in Senator Noynoy Aquino’s camp, and more or less the other endorsers namely Manny Pacquiao, Willie Revillame and Dolphy are in Senator Manny Villar’s camp. Does this show that the odds are in favor of the LP candidate?

One thing’s for sure; I personally know that there are talks inside the camp of Senator Chiz Escudero of a possibility of a release of an ad in support for or endorsement of Senator Noynoy Aquino. As to when it will be released or if it will be released at all, let’s just wait and see.

Arroyo's Interview with Maria Bartiromo of CNBC New York

We all heard about the "historical" trip of PGMA, as the first South-East Asian leader to meet US President Obama. That meeting, I shall leave out of this post. Instead, a day after that meeting, we all know also that an international icon of democracy, President Corazon C. Aquino, passed away.

While this was all happening, people can't help but ask what steps would Arroyo take in all of these? Through a video, she sent her condolences, and issued 10 days of mourning. Later on she declared Aug 5 as a special non-working holiday for Aquino's burial. But in spite of that, people are asking "So, what's keeping her from taking the next plane trip back to the Philippines?"

They say that a Presidential adviser who's close to the Aquino family is advising the President to honor all her commitments instead of taking the next flight back. Is it because of the fear of an unpopular president being gobbled by a very popular Filipino citizen? You decide.

Apparently, she took that advise, but made a spin in the media that she's coming home immediately, this Aug 5, and is scheduled to attemd the last day of President Aquino's burial at the Manila Cathedral. Now, the question is that how will the Aquino's and the people receive GMA? Will she even push through? We'll see.

In that period when Aquino died to now, she did this interview with CNBC about the Philippines, and issues in and around our country; so without further ado, here it is (you judge).

P.S. BPO and Tourism aren't really sustainable means to drive our economy, so why, Mrs. President, are you so proud and boast them internationally. Isip-isip ko, baka pinagtatawanan tayo ng buong mundo, sadly. :( IMHO, we should shift to national industrialization.

Arroyo signs Tourism Law in Philippine's Tourism Capital Cebu

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signs Tuesday (May 12) the Tourism Act of 2009 in Cebu City, the country’s tourism capital. The signing into law of the tourism bill will coincide with the opening of the newest and one of the biggest hotels in the southern island province.



Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said the President will sign the law “in a very special ceremony at the tourism capital of the country, which is my home city, at 12 noon in conjunction with the inauguration of the new Imperial Hotel in Cebu.”



The President will also hold the Cabinet meeting in Cebu City on Tuesday.

Philippine Airforce Planes over Fairview this Monday morning

These planes, hovering over our house this morning, broke the serenity of the neighborhood and went back in circles around 8 times. I asked the Plurk-world about it, and finally Arbet said that it was because of the "flyby" presentation of the Philippine Air Force for the AFP Anniversary celebration, where President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the commander-in-chief, was the guest of honor.

Arroyo Declares October 1 as Ramadan Eidl’l Fitr Regular Holiday in the Philippines

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed Presidential Proclamation 1625, declaring October 1 as a regular holiday in the observance of Eidl’l Fitr or the last day of Ramadan. “In order to bring the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, as a regular holiday throughout the country” the proclamation states.

In a few hours the Filipino people and the whole world will be witnesses again of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's State of the Nation Address. In this once in a year report to the people, a lot of questions, doubts, and attacks have been thrown back at the president for evident reasons such as increase in consumer and oil prices, and for all the anomalies that have happened since her last SONA. Though there are some praises, they are coming from her allies (of course).

The past 2 SONA's, I've heard such grandiose and magical plans and visions of the government. I am not saying that those plans are bad. What I am saying is that I have heard plans and more plans each year. But the question right now is that, what did the government, through PGMA, accomplished (or is trying to accomplish) for the past year/s?

I invite everyone to be critical. Let us go back, remember, and ask ourselves what had happened to all of those promises and plans? Were they accomplished? Were they what the government delivered for the past year? Were they just icing on top of the cake (hoping that the cake would look better with that icing)?

Let us decide. Let the people decide. Let's all watch the SONA, and after, share a thought, feeling or critcism. Will it be the "Same Old Nonsense from Arroyo?" or the true state of the nation? You, what do you think about the SONA? :)
