Chiz Escudero's New TV Ad endorsing Noynoy and Binay

Today on ANC, Karen Davila welcomed a cool and relaxed Chiz Escudero, looking great and confident as ever. I was tagged by Belinda Carlos in a post narrating today's guesting of Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero in ANC's Headstart, hosted by Davila every 8am, weekdays.

The first question thrown at him was "Why do you endorse Noy-Bi (Senator Noynoy Aquino and Mayor Jojo Binay)?", and "Why did you chose this tandem over other teeming political teams?"

Chiz expressed confidently that he believes that they (Noy and Binay) are the best team who is worthy of the presidential and vice-presidential positions, respectively. He strongly believes in their capacity and worthiness, both as persons and public servants, who will fill competently the said positions. He further stated that he believes Noy's good intentions and he is seeing it from his heart. Noy could truly perform such position, and so does Binay's competency and legislative experiences, that would make them a good tandem!

Karen asked again, "Why endorse Binay when all the while, Roxas is Noy's teammate in LP? Didnt he think that what he is doing will create a division from among LP members?"

Chiz firmly believes that there is no such thing as "block-voting" in our electoral system, and anybody may choose for himself whomever he believes is worthy of his trust and vote. He further explained that this is also applicable for any other candidates. If they chose to support Noy-Legarda or Gordon-Mar, this is anybody's choice that nobody should be bitter why he was not chosen. As Belinda says, "I guess this is where credibility of one candidate factors in. If he or she is really worthy, you don't need to ask for people's support because they will automatically support you because they know."

Chiz emphasized that whomever will win in the coming election, will need the people's support, because nobody is really prepared for the position, but everything will fall into place as soon as there is unity from among our citizens.

Karen asked Chiz if it is his plan for the coming 2016 to run with Binay as Pres and VP respectively, "why he did you not chose to endorse Mar, is it because you two shall be both vying for the position?"

In a cool way, Escudero answered Karen with "No, not this early, it was not yet on my mind, and it has no relation whatsoever with Mar's dreams of running in 2016." He chose to support Binay, and explained further that Binay is originally with him for so long in the Opposition, compared to Mar who sided with GMA's ticket opposite FPJ during the last elections, where he and Binay jointly supported the latter's candidacy as oppositionists.

Karen finally asked why TeamChiz were allegedly expelled from the campaign of LP team. Escudero pointed out that, we chose to stand down, and let the LP team handle the campaign to cause no problem whatsoever, because we have been informed that they will make various changes and adjustments in the campaign. To avoid any arguments, or disagreements, our decision was to stand down.

In between takes, Danton Remoto of Ang Ladlad Partylist was interviewed over the phone. He clearly declared, " I support NOY-BI tandem because I believe Noy is the "Mr. Clean of Philippine Politics, di na kelangang labhan o ikula, malinis talaga!" On Binay, he confirmed that he was with Binay during the PDP-Laban and both Noy and Binay's platform have gender component which he likes.

Karen asked Chiz' reaction regarding LP Campaign team manager Butch Abad's comment over an interview jokingly asking if Chiz is already a member of Ladlad?

Chiz straightened out the facts that some people are "walang intindi" or "makitid ang utak." Karen sustained with asking if Abad's actions were uncalled for. Chiz reiterates that, "maiwasan na lang sana ang ganyang comments."

In Belinda's personal opinion, and I couldn't agree more, Abad is embittered with Chiz' decision to support Binay instead of Mar. It was very obvious that his remark over Chiz and Ang Ladlad is a litlle bit vindictive to the point of asking the interviewer if Chiz is already a member, meaning, he is in doubt now of CHIZ' status just because Chiz did not support Mar, then adding a sarcastic laugh? "Who's "politically immature" now?", she asked.


Chiz' latest TV advertisement endorsing Noy and Binay are to be aired next week. It was played during the interview. He denied LP blocked the commercial in fairness, but nobody can block it because Binay's campaign team spent for the TV Ad.

He spoke with authority upon the issue of his backing out from the presidential candidacy, and cleared that there was no backing out to do since there was no declaration in the first place. He referred to his announcement of leaving NPC at Club Filipino in October last year. Chiz claimed that NOY-BI is his personal vision and choice of tandem for he believes in them. He believes Noy can do a better job.

About Danding Cojuangco, he declared that they are in speaking terms, nothing amiss, because he asked permission to leave NPC and they have just spoken over the phone a month ago before Danding left for Australia for a summer vacation. He simply answered Karen's intriguing question about how he felt when Danding didn't support his candidacy, in terms of money, "pera n'ya yun eh, siempre he decides"..jokingly smiled a cute boyish smile as ever.

Karen asked if he is ready to assume the position of Senate President in case of a failure of election on May? Chiz explained that he is ready and it should be that every member of the Senate be ready to assume the position in case of an Election failure. That the Senate President has only 90 days to sit in as temporary president, whose duty is to find out the causes of the failure and to call for a new election as is called for under our constitution. There is no such thing as "succession" in the Senate Presidency, and that a new one must be chosen.

No new political party is being claimed by Escudero to join, but after NPC, he is looking forward to form his own political party. Regarding the Appointment of SC chief, after Justice Puno be relieved on May 17, Chiz said that they are duty-bound to follow the appointment, anarchy results, otherwise.

And lastly, Karen asked Chiz about his comments on GMA's appointment of her "manicurist" as Board of Trustees in Pag-ibig? Chiz admitted that those are "midnight appointments" of GMA and he wouldn't be surprised at all.

Finally, after reading a couple of questions from the audience via twitter, Karen concluded that people observed Chiz was mellowed, cooled down and relaxed. Chiz simply said, there are more important things in life, than before. Again he smiled and Karen thanked the "most popular Senator in the Philippines" :)

CHIZmas Party at H2 Malate

Last December 21, Team Chiz, Move My Chiz, Youth for Chiz, Friends of Chiz and other supporters and friends gathered and celebrated Christmas, friendship and each others company over food, sounds and stories at H2 Bar Malate. It was great to meet all of the people again. I'm excited about next year! :) Cheers!

Say ni Chiz - As narrated to Bibeth Orteza

Exactly a week ago, Senator Chiz Escudero launched a book entitled "Say ni Chiz (as told to Bibeth Orteza)" in the National Book Store in Shangri-la Mall Crossings. This book is a very handy compilation of truths in the life of Francis Escudero, when he was an average/normal young boy, to when he grew up as a lawyer, and to what we all know him to be now. It tackles his personal and political life, and a lot more. Through the language used to narrate the story, he made sure ordinary Filipinos would easily connect and understand him more. "Parts of the book tackle his brief but significant encounter with the late actor Fernando Poe Jr., whose 6th death anniversary is on December 14." (ABS-CBNNews) Senator Chiz Escudero once served as FPJ’s spokesman during the presidential campaign in 2004.

For me, this book is a light read and would be an ideal gift to your loved ones this Christmas :)

Youth with Sen. Chiz Escudero

Just recently, members of Youth for Chiz (Youth for Change!) had a small dinner get-together with the Senator himself. He explained to us why he decided not to run, reiterated why he bolted out from NPC, discussed about his future plans as a Senator, and where he wants us, the youth, to go from here.

I saw in my members' eyes that they understood where he was coming from. I can surmise that that night, not only that they learned more about him, but also, they got the chance to understand more about his decisions in the past and see his person, his relaxed and informal self.

I get it. I guess that it is through us, those who he gets to interact more, that people will get to know the real Chiz, the other side of him, beyond what the Media and or critics have shaped or accused him to be. It's through us, the youth, that other people may get to know who he really is, his vision, and his plans for our country.

I share with him his ideals and ideas of a principled run and giving and showing that every Filipino has one vote..that even if you're the richest or the poorest Pinoy, come election day, you're just the same. You have the same power to choose who will lead us, and where we will go from thereon. It's a matter of using that power wisely.

Yesterday, I was surprised to learn that a group of artists, passionate at reviving the art of verbal jousting, commonly known in Filipino as Balagtasan, existed, and is great at it. This is my tribute to them, for showing me and reviving my passion to write and share my thoughts in Filipino. I might not be as good as them when I speak, but at least on paper, in my own words, I will be able to spark and idea, a creation, a life outside the box, and inside the hearts of many.

According to their Facebook page, The Batutes is a "performance art group composed of GP Abrajano, Dako Cutab, and Siege Malvar. Having named themselves after the original king of Balagtasan, Jose Corazon de Jesus a.k.a. Huseng Batute, the trio aims to revitalize the Filipino verbal joust in metered rhyme by infusing their own brand of humor and poetics to the traditional structure of Balagtasan. They have performed in various venues all over the metropolis, and are now hard at work on their first collection of Balagtasan."

This election forum series is for the benefit of UP students, who wants to be an audience with the future public officials of our country. The one-on-one will focus on the education sector, touching on his/her plans for UP as the premier state university, and overall plans for the youth as a whole. They are also expected to tackle on their governance and economic plans.

BAGONG SIGLA Concert

“Sugod! Kilos!, Tayo ang Bagong Sigla," October 09, 2009, Friday, 7pm at the Liwasang Ullalim (beside Folk Arts Theatre) featuring BAMBOO and other exciting bands! Bagong Sigla Concert is a simultaneous fund-raising concert in Manila, Dagupan (CSI Stadia), Iloilo (Freedom Grandstand) and Davao (Damosa Market Basket). All proceeds shall be given to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng.

Bagong Sigla was originally a free concert but since Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng left hundreds of people dead and millions more homeless, we decided to turn it into a benefit event.

Youth for Chiz will have a booth there. We invite all the energetic, passionate and those who want to chill -- come and join the fun while helping our brothers and sisters who were badly hit by the two Typhoons. Yes, by everyone's help we can do something now. See you all there! :)

2009 SONA: Sana Totoo!

The 2009 SONA-SANA video seeks to provide a candid evaluation of the Arroyo presidency, which has, for the past seven SONAs, failed to provide an accurate assessment of the state of our nation.



In the video, which will be made available to the public via the internet, opposition Sen. Francis Joseph "Chiz" G. Escudero reports on how the president has failed to meet the very standards she set when she took over the presidency in 2001. And how despite holding her position for over eight years the country continues to suffer, particularly in the areas of education, job generation, food security, and good governance.

Aside from giving a somber account of the state of the nation, Sen. Escudero also points out what should have been done to address the country's myriad problems, and looks forward as he presents alternatives so that the questionable policies of the present administration can be rectified.

Chizmisan Forum on Social Transformation

Senator Francis Chiz Escudero recently dialogued with the students and some teachers at the CHIZmisan forum on social transformation in the UP School of Economics auditorium last Wednesday held by the UP ETC, PhilCES and the University Student Council of UP Diliman.

Student Council Chairperson Titus Tan discussed the current state of governance in the Philippines, and suggested some key point actions where the government must address in order to solve these problems; meanwhile Prof. Riza Tablarin, of the Tarlac College of Agriculture, talked about the state of Agriculture and Farming in the Philippines.

On the other hand, the bulk of the discussion focused on Josteen Vega, the National President of the Philippine Council of Economic Students (PhilCES) and his presentation of the state of Economic affairs in the Philippines and issues intertwined with it. He ended by giving an agenda of the youth on certain issues to the senator.



The Chizmisan Forum was the first of a series of forum by the UP Economics Towards Consciousness in order to raise the awareness of students on issues the country is facing. The next forum will be with Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.

Talakayan 20.10: Forum on Education Reform

Talakayan 2010, an issue-based forum by the Movement for Good Governance (MGG) that aims to tackle pressing issues of our nation today on Education, Governance, Economy, Health, etc, started yesterday at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) with guests Senator Chiz Escudero, Senator Dick Gordon, Isabella Governor Grace Padaca and Mr. Nicanor Perlas.

The topic of the forum was of Education. They invited the Philippine Business for Education and Education Nation to articulate the present environment and situation of our Education in the Philippines.

Even before entering the room, guests were asked to drop a poker-chip in the box representing the candidate he or she would vote for right there and then, even before hearing them.

Participants were given each of the guests’ profiles. They were free to ask any question related to the topic during the forum. At the end of the forum, guests were asked to rate the guests according to the scorecard given.

The next forum would be on August 06, and it will be on the Philippine Economy, with the Makati Business Club and the Management Association of the Philippines. For more details log on to their website at http://wedeservebetter.ph/.
