Ong's Association at Annapolis Seafood Garden

It's the last time I am receiving this award from the Ong's Association. After all, I already graduated from my studies. So much for the yearly award with "remuneration." :))) Now, it's a fresh start and brand new life all together. On one part, I am sure I will miss school, but on the other, I am glad that I am starting to work and earn for the future.

Being the food blogger that I am, of course I took photos of the food served during the occasion. I will post them in a separate blog entry :)

Apple Cinnamon Merienda

IMG_4981IMG_4980

I haven't blogged about it yet, but I have a job now. One of the perks of this job is that we have an in-house chef who does our lunch, merienda and dinner. The food's really good, as if we're eating food from a good restaurant everyday. Here's our merienda today. Chef was extra happy I guess. He made us apple cinnamon pastries. :) Super yummy! :)

Muruve by Pino at Ortigas Home Depot

IMG_4894

Muruve by Pino recently had its press launch, where members of the media were treated to a Tapas Buffet by part-owner and Chef Ed Bugia, and wine-pairing and appreciation by William Siapno. I brought my best friend, who recently opened his blog at Lost Tsinelas, to attended the event with me.

IMG_4835IMG_4852IMG_4858IMG_4862

Chef Ed Bugia, PJ and Star, the brains behind Pino Bar and Restaurant in Teachers Village, Quezon City teamed up with Muruve Bistro and Wine Cellar to give it a new package and boost and push for a place where people can drink good good wine paired with good food.

PinoResto Bar's Executive Chef Edward Bugia beefs up Muruve by Pino's menu with his trademark Pinoy-style fusion cuisine, particularly Spanish-inspired fares. House favorites, which are also available in Pino, include the Longganisa ang Pagnet Paella, Kaldereta, and the Kare-Kareng Bagnet, among others.

Noynoy Aquino's Thanksgiving Mass and Party

Yesterday was the thanksgiving mass and party for President-elect Noynoy Aquino at the Mansion HQ in Quezon City. It started around 5pm and ended late past 12 am, I would say. Food was good, there were a lot of people. The crowd was okay.

Secret Recipe's Nasi Lemak and Chocolate Indulgence

IMG_4749IMG_4739

We tried out Secret Recipe in Shangri-la Plaza recently, I ordered Nasi Lemak (Php 280) which came with a free iced tea. Nasi Lemak is a famous Asian dish which is made of rich coconut rice perfectly paired with Rendang Chicken, crunchy fried anchovies and sambal belacan, a traditional Malaysian favorite. We also tried one of their bestselling cakes, the Chocolate Indulgence (Php 120 per slice), which is made of several layers of chocolate and mocha. The cake isn't too sweet and is very delicious. I enjoyed my first time at Secret Recipe because it serves not so expensive dishes, and you enjoy every bit of flavor in the dishes they serve. :)

I voted in the 2010 Philippine National Elections.

IMG_4698IMG_4696

I just voted at the North Fairview Elementary School in Quezon City in precinct number 2106A clustered under precinct #493. It took me an hour to line up, check my name on the list, sign adjacent my name, put my right thumb mark, shade the oval beside my candidates, and cast it in the PCOS machine.

As of 2 p.m., there were 453 ballots cast out of 1,000 voters in the precinct.

Upon entering the school, you will be greeted by people, supporters of different candidates I would guess, who keep on shoving in your face sample ballots for their candidates. It’s similar to what I encountered during my first ever elections in 2007. In the end, there was so much clutter on the floor inside and outside the school. There’s so much paper wasted and trashed.

IMG_4681

Right after voting, I interviewed the head of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Board of Elections Inspectors (BEIs) of our clustered precinct, Leah Lopez, about the conduct of elections in the precinct, and she said, “magulo” (unorderly). I asked why it was like that; she said it was because the PCOS machine wasn’t working earlier.

At 7:35 a.m., they found out that the PCOS machine was defective, and it wouldn’t read the ballots. At 8:22 a.m., they tested a blank ballot and it was accepted, while other filled-out ballots weren’t being taken in. The voting continued, as per COMELEC regulation. At 9:23 a.m., the PCOS machine was able to accept and count the ballots.

The BEIs had to cut off more or less a quarter of a millimeter from both sides of the ballots, both filled out by the voters when the PCOS wasn’t working earlier, and the unfilled ballots, to make it work.

Jomar Orchiana, coordinator for the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) of the Divine Savior Parish, said that the process was slow, and the lines weren’t managed well. People were cutting and there were disorderly lines. They had to help put the lines in order so that the voting could go smoothly.

I am voting this May 10, 2010. You should too!

Picture 11

May 10, 2010, the day everyone's waiting for or dreading about - take your pick. It's Election day again for the Philippines, and the next administration and the next set of leaders would spell our future in this fast paced and flattening world caused by globalization and the changing needs of the times.

What's in it for me? What's in it for the Filipino people and the Philippines? That's the first and foremost question/s my mind is thinking right now; and this question/s resounded even through the process I did choosing the candidates who deserve my vote.

At first, I really wanted to blog about my President and Vice-President, together with my Senatorial Candidates, but I later thought, what difference will my post make, when most probably they're all decided already anyway? My close friends know whom I will vote for, and let's keep it at that.

We were supposed to run for the Presidency, but in the end, it didn't happen. It's not time, they said. Funny, this elections shouldn't be about who is running or who will eventually win. At least for me, that's not the most important consideration we should look at or dwell on. It's about moving forward and moving on together; after all we're not the Liberal Country or the Nationalista Country, neither are we the PMP, Bagumbayan, or Lakas-Kampi-CMD Country, we're the Philippines - a country with so much richness of different resources.

This election has left dents and bruises among people. It might be true that it's the dirtiest elections. At least in my lifetime as of yet, I think I have to agree with that. I have friends from different camps, and I would not like to add more to what is between and among them.

So, I would rather abstain telling you, dear readers, who to vote for as President or Vice-President. I know that you've followed the candidates, the election fever, closely. I am sure you've seen and decided in you whom you'll vote. I respect that. We may not have the same candidates, but heck, whoever wins, we must help each other move to where we want our country and our people to go.

As for the Senators. Fine, I think there's no harm in publishing whom I'll give my vote to, since there are 12 slots anyway. And so, here goes..as of 1:00am of May 10, I am voting for NERIC ACOSTA #1, RUFFY BIAZON #7, PIA CAYETANO #10, MIRIAM DEFENSOR-SANTIAGO #13, TG GUINGONA #19, RISA HONTIVEROS-BARAQUEL #20, YASMIN LAO #26, DANNY LIM #28, TOOTS OPLE #38, SERGE OSMENA #40, GILBERT REMULLA #49 and I voting for KAAKBAY #151 for Partylist.

With Senator Pia Cayetano in our Blogwatch interview during the campaign season. I think she deserves to be #1 today. I dare say that we don't deserve Bong Revilla as our #1 Senator, please. Let's make Pia #1! :)
