J.Co Donuts & Coffee Philippines opens this March 15, 2012

Remember my post last year, "J.CO Donuts and Coffee will soon invade the Philippines!"? Well, it is nearing its March 15, 2012 opening at The Strip in SM Megamall, and everyone is very excited about J.Co Donuts & Coffee's opening in the Philippines. In the meantime, its really soft, melt-in-your-mouth, and yummy donuts are slowly invading foodies and food bloggers' hearts, and becoming a really big hit.

J.Co Donuts & Coffee Philippines has a lot to offer. They have a variety of premium flavored donuts to choose from. My favorite and their bestseller is the Alcapone, which is made of chocolate and almonds. One can never go wrong with that combination. They also have different flavors such as the "Heaven Berry (Strawberry heaven, made with strawberries and cream), Choco Caviar, Cheese Me Up (sweet-savory delight), Why Nut (American peanut butter filling and premium white chocolate topping), Green Tease (Matcha green tea imported from Japan), Choco Loco and a lot more."

Shi Lin at the Podium

Right now, there are a lot of Xiao Long Bao stores opening in Manila. There's Suzhou for one, and Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao, and now, there's Shi Lin restaurant in the 3rd level of The Podium in Pasig.

We visited a few days after it opened. They say it's one of the version of the famous Din Dai Fung of Taiwan, but I have yet to try it there. It's now a growing trend to have a see-through kitchen where you can observe how they prepare your food.

Of course, we had to try their Xiao Long Bao, to compare with all others we've tried. We loved it. I say it's one of the best, in you just consider the taste. It's not as big as the ones served in Suzhou, but a crate has 6 pcs in it. Suzhou's shredded ginger and Chinese black vinegar, the one you dip your Xiao Long Bao in, is still the best in my opinion.

We also got their version of Shrimp and Pork Dumpling, which is equally good. You could taste a good combination of shrimp and pork. Next time I would love to try their Shrimp and Pork Shaomai, which I heard tastes better.

Another dish we ordered was the Noodles with Spicy Sesame & Peanut Sauce. Although I would say that the dish was a lot smaller than we expected (because the serving size is only good for one) the overall taste is great. The noodles were cooked a bit on the al dente side, and the flavors of the spicy sesame and peanut sauce is just fantastic! I tried mixing it with the rice, and it was just insanely yummy.

The last dish we got was the Drunken Chicken. It was my first time to be able to sample a cold dry chicken dish served with soup. It was a little bit odd for my taste, but with soy and chili, I guess it worked for me.

We also tried out their Passion Berry Iced Tea (right) and their Green Mistique Iced Tea (left). I love the latter one, which is what I had :)

Kick Ass Movie coming this April 16

kick ass 27x40 poster

Big Daddy (Nicholas Cage) fights crime with kick-ass superheroes without superpowers! KICK-ASS is based on the comic book of the same name written by Mark Millar and illustrated by John Romita, Jr. When Mark pitched his story to Matthew Vaughn, director of the blockbuster film Stardust, the latter was impressed and immediately agreed to direct the movie and write the screenplay with Jane Goldman, also his co-writer of Stardust. Vaughn and Goldman were keen that their movie wouldn’t simply be a carbon copy of Millar’s book hence the back-story of Nicolas Cage’s character Big Daddy.

See the cool gang of four do some nasty stunts in KICK-ASS as it hits theaters on April 16. I'm excited to see the film. It premieres today at SM Megamall! The movie is released by Viva International Pictures.

SM Cinemas launches Most Interactive Cinema Experience

teaser

Prepare for the most interactive cinema experience ever in your life! SM Cinema will launch this late April its most interactive cinema ever, which would prove to be very dynamic and playful, and may insinuate hand waving motions. It will be the first ever in Philippine cinemas. Together with the advent of 3D movies in theaters, this new treat to moviegoers will prove that cinemas are still the best places for leisure. This project will be launches at the Digital Theater of SM Megamall, in time for the series of blockbuster movies this summer! Can't wait to see how it will go! :)

Live-blogging from the SM Megamall Free WiFi Testing

DSC00369

SM Megamall follows other SM super malls in giving mall-goers free WiFi. Currently, the area where they cordoned and provided sofas and seats is now full. WiFi is working, but once in a while, it fluctuates. It's not that fast as proven by Shar's speed test of the Free WiFi on her blog. Right now, their WiFi is 80% up already, in 2 days, it will be fully functional! :)

UPDATE: Lu Jean just won a WOW MAGIC SING fiesta! :) Congrats to Ade Magnaye as well :)

Bench & Coke Wear A Smile promo

I was strolling around SM Megamall, when I saw this shirt, and this big sign at Bench. I immediately went inside and asked how much for the "A Coke A Day Keeps The Bad Trip Away" shirt (because if you guys know me, I'm a HUGE Coke merchandise addict). They were a little bit surprised about my question. "How much for the shirt?" I found out that it's a promo by Coca-Cola and Bench. You have to look under your Coca-Cola bottle and pet-bottle caps or tansans. If it says you get a free shirt, you may claim it in any Bench store or outlet. I REALLY WANT THIS, AND I WILL GET ONE! (oh, please help me...can someone give me one tansan?) Promo starts today!

Bigby's Titanic Treat - a dessert of the gods

DSCN5444

Among the hefty servings of Continental, Mediterranean, and Oriental dishes Bigby's Cafe and Restaurant serve, their Titanic Treat is a must, MUST try! It's 40 scoops of ice cream and toppings all over the place. This baby is the god of all desserts. Yes, be afraid. This enormous dessert is for those who are adventurous and who call themselves ultimate food lovers.

Owner Henrik Yu told us that if you'll order this with another person (meaning there's just 2 of you) and you guys finish it in 5 minutes, this Php 999 monstrous treat will be free of charge! Anyone up for the challenge? ^^

Bigby's started in Cagayan de Oro, and now, it has expanded to Metro Manila, in the newly opened Atrium in SM Megamall
