Hit Girl uses Filipino Balisong in Kick Ass movie

Lionsgate has provided us with this new clip from Kick-Ass, which opens today in Philippine cinemas. The clip features Nicolas Cage as Big Daddy and Chloe Moretz as Hit Girl. It's noticeable that Chloe Moretz, the bad-ass, kick-ass superhero, who, in my opinion, should win an award for her portrayal of Hit Girl, pays homage and recognizes the Filipino origin of the Butterfly knife, or more commonly known as Balisong.

"I actually learned to flip two balisongs (Filipino folding knives) at the same time, one in each hand too. And the last two months of it I spent at the Toronto Circus School! They took me there because they wanted me to get really flexible for the role," explained Chloe Moretz.

Kick Ass Movie coming this April 16

Big Daddy (Nicholas Cage) fights crime with kick-ass superheroes without superpowers! KICK-ASS is based on the comic book of the same name written by Mark Millar and illustrated by John Romita, Jr. When Mark pitched his story to Matthew Vaughn, director of the blockbuster film Stardust, the latter was impressed and immediately agreed to direct the movie and write the screenplay with Jane Goldman, also his co-writer of Stardust. Vaughn and Goldman were keen that their movie wouldn’t simply be a carbon copy of Millar’s book hence the back-story of Nicolas Cage’s character Big Daddy.


See the cool gang of four do some nasty stunts in KICK-ASS as it hits theaters on April 16. I'm excited to see the film. It premieres today at SM Megamall! The movie is released by Viva International Pictures.
