DigitalFilipino E-Commerce Summit and Globe GCash

The DigitalFilipino E-Commerce Summit, an intensive 2-day educational seminar on e-commerce strategies that is scheduled to take place on November 12 & 13, 2009 at the Hotel Intercontinental, Makati City.

One interesting bit about the summit, besides sharing "best practices (what to do, what not to do, execution, measurement)", one of the sponsors, Globe GCASH and Ms. Rizza Maniego-Eala, President, G-Xchange, Inc. will talk about "Challenges and Opportunities in MOBILE MONEY TRANSFER: Implementation of GCASH" at the event. It will be a "look into Mobile Commerce in the Philippines and how its applications have evolved to be able to service both mainstream and unbanked markets. Insights on the challenges and opportunities of Mobile Money transfer within the mobile commerce ecosystems, and a specific look into its current role in the banking industry."



From my initial knowledge and a little bit of research, GCASH allows Globe and Touch Mobile subscribers to pay or transact for the following using their mobile phones:

- domestic and international remittances
- utility bills
- interest and amortization of loans
- insurance premiums
- donations to various institutions and organizations
- sales commissions and payroll disbursements
- school tuition fees
- micro tax payments and business registration
- electronic loads and pins
- online purchases via GCASH Click
- airline tickets

GCASH is tied-up to BPI Mobile Banking enabling Globe and TM subscribers to do various bank transactions through one's cellphone. GCASH is also used as a wholesale payment facility particularly for rural banks wherein various moeny transfer services are offered such as: text-a-deposit, text-a-sweldo, text-a-withdrawal, text-a-payment, text-a-remittance.

Also enabled by the GCASH platform is GCASH REMIT, the cash pick-up remittance service of GCASH. GCASH REMIT makes it easy for overseas Filipino workers to send their hard earned money from abroad, and their beneficiaries can instantly claim their remittance in over 2,500 GCASH REMIT pay out locations in the Philippines such as pawnshops, rural banks and money changers.

Globe also recently launched Immortal Load, the first load with NO EXPIRY via GCASH. You can use it to purchase load whenever you need it.

In this day and age, the use of cellular phones became a necessity, with more than almost every Filipino having at least one unit. Moreover, I think this is why companies such as Globe, together with different industries, like the banking industry, are trying to make available services that once was very tedious to do. Right now, it's just as instant and as mobile as it could get.

Globe Telecom's Globe Tattoo Broadband has been extensively advertised all over the radio, television and print ads for quite some time now. For all of you, I would like to share with you what this mobile internet is really capable of doing and how it works. The Globe Tattoo Broadband is a mobile internet USB stick that poses as a modem so that users can access the Web anywhere, anytime they please. It's that convenient.

However, surfing speed in the internet using this gadget varies from where you are when you are using it, and what type of signal your Tattoo is connected to. "Connecting via 3G and High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) of course enables you to surf at high speeds."

If you're going to be spending several hours just browsing or downloading media, it's better to set your browsing status to Time-based. The setting for all Globe Tattoo SIMS by default is Time-based. You will be charged Php5.00 for 15 minutes.

If you're just going to quickly check an email or a site, set your browsing status to a "Per-KB" browsing. You will be charged only 15 centavos per kilobyte. To switch from Time-based to Per-KB browsing just text KB to 1111 using your Globe Tattoo SIM.

To check your default browsing, text STATUS to 1111.

For those who are waiting for so long, and are really excited about the official Philippine iPhone launch, your wait is finally over! You can now have an official iPhone at your own hands on August 22. You can now reserve your own iPhone here.

But is the long wait all worth it? With the Prepaid 8GB iPhone model starting at Php 41, 889, wouldn't you think twice purchasing it? Highway robbery! :(

For me, though I really really really want one (as in REALLY REALLY), with that price, I think I'll buy myself a DSLR first instead, and hope that the prices will lower after several months. Then maybe, I can buy myself one already?

iPhone in the Philippines!

Finally! iPhone reaches this part of the world - Asia - Philippines. It was announced today that Globe Telecom will carry the iPhone line. Personally, I am just excited, and I can't wait to get hold of one. I have been waiting for the Asian release since Steve Jobs launched the phone. I just hope they've fixed the difficulty of the texting function of the iPhone, to fit Asian/Filipino texters' addiction to that feature. :3
