Pasig River Marathon: Help Save Pasig River

The earth is made up of more than 70% of water. It is a very important resource for peoples across the globe. Water is a natural force that can either nourish us, or destroy us. As we all know by now, our water systems are all interconnected. Sometimes, we have to learn to protect it the hard way.

At this day and age, people all over the world learn about the importance of protecting and conserving water. Day in and day out, more and more of our waters are getting polluted and destroyed. After the recent Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng, one of the focuses and clamor of people, especially the environmentalists and cause oriented groups, is the protection and rehabilitation of our water systems, and this includes the Pasig River.

Pasig River was once clean and thriving with life, but now, it is sad to think that it became polluted and being destroyed - unless we do something fast to counter this threat. Luckily, there are groups of people partnering with the government to bring back Pasig to life, to what it once was before. I think, we should all help each other make that possible. How? Check this out.

Save the Pasig River and run for a worthy cause on Nov 8, 2009. Get a glimpse of the state of the Pasig River in the Philippine International Marathon 2009: A Run for the Pasig River at the Quirino Grandstand.

The activity, organized by Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig (KBPIP), will allow runners to get close to the river via a nontraditional route that will cross nine of the 13 bridges of the waterway; portions of the race will be run alongside the river itself.

A unique feature of this race is the 42K full marathon which can also be run by a relay team of 20 and 40 people per team. The relay will run the full length of the marathon route divided by 20 points. Each point will be assigned a prominent landmark or bridge along the route.

Philippine International Marathon for Pasig

There are short distance categories of 3k-5k-10k. The age limit is 6 years old and above. The full marathon and its sub categories will be under the technical supervision of Race Director Rudy Biscocho and his team. Water stations will be situated every 2km from starting line to finish line.

Participation fee is P250. Pinoy Ultra Runners will conduct free running clinics for first-time runners. Registration forms are available online for marathon and relay or register at the following outlets: KBPIP office at 3/F ELJ Building, Mother Ignacia QC, ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. Head office, IZOD boutiques, Vanheusen Boutiques, Golds Gym, ROX Running Store, Second Wind, Race Inc.

For more info, call 415-2272 loc. 3797 or email ilogpasig@abs-cbn.com

Add up the Facebook event page of Pasig River Marathon. Let us Save the Pasig River, sign up and run! Also, you might want to join in the discussion at LopezLink, "What can college students do to help Pasig River?" I am curious what you guys think. Talk about Pasig. Don't let the river die.

*Kapit Bisig para sa Ilog Pasig is a partnership between ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. and Department of Environment and Natural Resources through Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) to rehabilitate the Metro Manila water basin, with initial focus on Pasig River and its tributaries.

BAGONG SIGLA Concert

“Sugod! Kilos!, Tayo ang Bagong Sigla," October 09, 2009, Friday, 7pm at the Liwasang Ullalim (beside Folk Arts Theatre) featuring BAMBOO and other exciting bands! Bagong Sigla Concert is a simultaneous fund-raising concert in Manila, Dagupan (CSI Stadia), Iloilo (Freedom Grandstand) and Davao (Damosa Market Basket). All proceeds shall be given to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng.

Bagong Sigla was originally a free concert but since Typhoon Ondoy and Pepeng left hundreds of people dead and millions more homeless, we decided to turn it into a benefit event.

Youth for Chiz will have a booth there. We invite all the energetic, passionate and those who want to chill -- come and join the fun while helping our brothers and sisters who were badly hit by the two Typhoons. Yes, by everyone's help we can do something now. See you all there! :)

*To gain admission please bring some canned goods, a pack of rice, dry and usable clothing, bottled water, medicines, or simply donate a minimum of one peso at the concert gates for our fund drive.
