Borough with the College Barkada

Rog, one of my college friends, came home from the US, so we got together, like old times, and did some catching up with stories from here and there. Of course, nothing beats a good story paired with good food. We tried out Borough, the 24/7 restaurant bar located at The Podium in Ortigas, which serves New York's comfort food. It's an affiliate of the famous Makati resto-bar Il Ponticello, or Ponti to its patrons.

Popcorn Calamari - Popcorn-crusted fried squid served with clarified chili butter. It is an interesting appetizer which can be served in the movie house. That would be a really yummy idea :))

Cubano Corn
- Corn on the Cob covered in Cayenne Pepper, Parmesan Cheese and butter. They asked us if we want it to be shredded, so we said yes. Sweet and Spicy, just the way I like it.

Chili Chicken Burger - Homemade chicken burger topped with Monterey jack, corn salsa, avocado & herbal mayo in brioche bun. They say the gauge of a good burger is in their patty. Truly, this one's worth it! Real grilled beef patty, juicy and tasty. :)

Cheese-Injected Portobello Pita Pocket
- Portobello Mushroom oozing with Monterey Jack in a Pita Pocket. Probably the best one among the food that we ordered. The taste is quite interesting and distinct. I love how the Portobello Mushroom was covered with cheese. I would love it though if the cheese had more kick that what actually was served.

Eggplant Parmigiana - Panko Crusted Eggplant covered in Mozzarella and sprinkled with Parmesan. Served with Buttered Spaghetti.

Mom's Milk & Cookies - The bestselling dessert, which comes with milk! We all dunked our cookies into our small glasses of milk. Fun. :)) We tried all 3 kinds of cookies at that time. As far as I can remember, it was Kisses and Almonds, Sour Candy and Rocky Road(?). :) Must try!

Bread Butter Pudding - The pudding on the other hand is alright, though it was forgettable. You could do away with it, and just order more cookies! :)

Brooklyn - Chivas with Raspberry, the twist to the good old drink.

Flapjack's Better and Bests are Back!

Due to insistent public demand, Flapjacks launches its "Back...Better...Best!" where it brings back all the much loved and missed signature Flapjacks dishes like the Original Hash Brown Burger (my favorite!!!). They brought back four dishes to the menu, including Mango Exotica (a salad dish), Chicken Stuffed Parmigiana (pasta), and Lemon-Pepper Pan Seared White Fish. I brought with me my friends to FlapJacks for lunch yesterday to try these yummy dishes. :)

Mango Exotica. Delight in the freshness of crisp romaine lettuce, sweet hints of California raisins; grilled chicken smothered with the zesty, tangy taste of mango vinaigrette and almond slivers for that extra crunch. This is definitely worth trying. I like how the dish blended well and tasted really fresh and light.

Go the extra nostalgic mile as you opt for Chicken Stuffed Parmigiana and once again savor the tender cheese-stuffed breaded chicken breast on top of a bed of linguine pasta and marinara sauce. Another must try. Everything was delicious.

Flapjacks is also proud to again offer its Original Hash Brown Burger, a huge pan-seared all-beef patty topped with hash brown and veggies in a hot bun and served with fries. Now this is the star among the four come-backs. I personally like this best among the rest. I can eat this anytime of the day :)

If it’s the fish you miss, don’t fret because the Lemon-Pepper Pan Seared White Fish is back to tickle your taste buds again. Give in to the mouth-watering taste of mildly-seasoned fried white fish and served with herbed rice and chef’s veggies. It was okay. I think the fish was too oily. It would be better if it was just steamed, topped with nice sweet and sour, or somewhat sweet/salty sauce...now that would be awesome!

Of course, the other stars of the menu are available any time of the day, from sun up to sundown. You can enjoy their breakfast staples like fluffy pancakes in different yummy flavors, appetizers, meat and seafood entrees, sandwiches and desserts. So, what are you waiting for? :)
