Reports on DAR cheif's son, Mayor Nasser Pangandaman's Assult on Father & Son at Valley Golf & Country Club Antipolo

Since Bambee, daughter of Delfin De La Paz, had blogged about the alleged mauling incident of the Department of Agrarian Reform cheif's son, Lanao del Sur Mayor Nasser Pangandaman Jr., and his armed bodyguards last Friday at the Valley Golf & Country Club in Antipolo over golfing etiquette, a lot of bloggers sympathized and joined in to alert the public and call for justice for the family.

My former teacher Beverly Natividad wrote about the incident over at Inquirer.net, and in today's Inquirer bulletin.

Senator Pia Cayetano has read about the incident on Tita Noemi's blog, and hopefully everyone gets to know about this mess too!

In the UP National College of Public Administration, Dean Alex Brillantes has always told us that while studying Public Administration, the government and its systems, it's essential that we see these disparities and irregularities, and question them.

He said it's okay to get frustrated, to get angry, and mad about it. But in the end, we must translate that anger into something positive, something action-oriented, something that would change that inequality.

In this case, this alleged remorseless and unstatesmanlike actions of the Mayor and the inaction of a cabinet official must be dealt with severely if proven so. Hold the people responsible accountable for their actions or inactions!

Updates of Bambee on her blog. With the Pangandamans not taking accountability, and this incident obviously lacking transparency, I am 100% certain that more and more bloggers and sympathizers will continue to post, and repost a thing or two about this.

UPDATE: Secretary Pangandaman's side of the story as reported by Inquirer.net.

ABS-CBN bags rights for "Takipsilim", a local 'Twilight' remake

UPDATE (12/29/08): To end this once and for all? Here's the real deal.

So it's now official, says the online news of TV giant ABS-CBN. They bagged the rights to do a local remake of the popular teen chick flick hit Twilight of Stephanie Meyer. Kill us now, please!

Rayver Cruz and Shaina Magdayao? No offense, but, can't we be more original?

Oh here's a Petition aptly titled "Say no to Twilight, Filipino Version!". I know I'm signing that. You?

Metro Manila Film Festival's One Night Only Premiere at SM Megamall Cinema 9 and 10

One Night Only - a 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival entry - premiered earlier in SM Megamall Cinemas 9 and 10. Direk Jose Javier Reyes arrived early. The cast led by Diana Zubiri, Jennylyn Mercado, Katrina Halili, Chokoleit, John Avila, Joross Gamboa, Ricky Davao and Jason Gainza were there. Say Alonzo and Kris Lawrence were also present.
One Night Only - MMFF

One Night Only Premiere

Octoarts and Canary Films' entry to the 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival starring Diana Zubiri, Jennylyn Mercado, Katrina Halili, Valerie Concepcion and Alex De Rossi. It's supposed to be about these girls and their love interests and different relationships brewing all over. The story is about a hodgepodge of all these little stories, and then they all meet at the Lovers Paradise Motel. The End.

Even before I decided to see the film, I wasn't really expecting a lot from it. It was just alright. The girls were beautiful, but their individual stories weren't that great. I think that each story wasn't really that developed. And it could have ended in another way (but I guess, to each his own?) :)

I like that the Chinese dialogues in the film were good. I can actually understand them, even without looking at the subtitles. Chocolate and Joross' parts were outstanding. I think they deserve their fair share of the movie's credit. Ricky Davao's part was great as usual. One Night Only! Let's all support Pinoy movies this coming December 25 in the Metro Manila Film Festival. :)

After reading Tiffy's Manila Film Festival Movies: I want to watch! My list still holds. These are the MMFF movies (in order of preference) which I want to watch. 1. Dayo, 2. Iskul Bukol, 3. Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat, 4. Baler, 5. Desperadas 2, 6. One Night Only, 7. Shake, Rattle and Roll 10, 8. Magkaibigan

Philippine Airforce Planes over Fairview this Monday morning

P1010033

These planes, hovering over our house this morning, broke the serenity of the neighborhood and went back in circles around 8 times. I asked the Plurk-world about it, and finally Arbet said that it was because of the "flyby" presentation of the Philippine Air Force for the AFP Anniversary celebration, where President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the commander-in-chief, was the guest of honor.

The Tangerine Tree is still alive

This started way way back when I was still a little boy (according to my parents), they became known because of their really yummy Food For The Gods. It was a surprise for me and my parents to see that they have grown and became more successful today.

Tangerine Tree
Tangerine Tree :3

Right now, they have more products besides their FFTG. (Clockwise from L-R: Butter Royale, Fruits and Nuts, Choco Chum, Food for the Gods)
Tangerine Tree Goodies

After tasting all of the products, my family have agreed that it's still their Food for the Gods which ranks #1 among the 4 treats, follwed by the Fruits and Nuts, then the Choco Chum, and lastly the Butter Royale. In my opinion, I really can't decide between the FFTG and the Fruits and Nuts, but one thing's for sure, I like the Butter Royale the least.

Online Contest: Win a Havaianas Limited Edition Leisure Towel

Havaianas together with GeiserMaclang and The Philippines and Beyond will be giving away a Havaianas Limited Edition Leisure Towel to one lucky reader!

Havs Towel 1

You just have to answer this question in the comments section below: WHAT IS YOUR MOST CREATIVE WAY OF USING A TOWEL? Please leave your name and e-mail address with your answer. It's that simple! This contest will run until January 9, 2009 :)

To every towel there is a purpose.

Some are meant to be kept demurely folded in guest bathrooms; some are used by martial artists for self-defense; but others—those cut from heartier stock—are the kind you want to have on your back as you jet set through the holidays.

In fact, if pop culture’s most reliable handbook for space travel, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” is anything to go by when it referred to the towel as “the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have”, it’s the best Christmas present you could possibly give this season. And while only a few will be given the chance to go on an intergalactic journey, this doesn’t mean it still won’t be a welcome addition to anyone’s holiday gear.

This is why you should check out the latest addition to Havaianas’ arsenal of travel essentials: the Havaianas Leisure Towels that mirror the versatility and convenience of the world-famous favorite flip-flops brand.

Havs Towel 2

Snap up the special edition, travel must-have for yourself or give them away as gifts and get creative. The jazzy towels are made of plush and absorbent terrycloth that makes it the ideal seaside companion as you stretch across the scorching sand; or share the comfort of 100% cotton as you leisurely enjoy a sunny picnic. Plus, at 3.28feet x 4.92feet, it’s something big enough to stretch out on, but easy enough to tote around and zip up in your carry-all with ease.

So the next time you hit the surf or the road, leave the monogrammed bath sheet at home and travel right with the versatile and made-to-last Havaianas Leisure Towels.

The Havaianas Leisure Towels are available starting December only in all All Flip-Flops branches – Bonifacio High Street, Glorietta 3, Mall of Asia, Alabang Town Center, RP Ermita, TriNoma, Greenbelt 5, Session Road Baguio, Robinsons StarMills Pampanga, SM City Batangas, SM City Iloilo, SM City Cebu, SM City Davao, SM City Cagayan de Oro

Kulinarya: A Guidebook to Philippine Cuisine

P1010081

The Kulinarya project, A Guidebook to Philippine Cuisine, signed by Chef Myrna Segismundo of Restaurant 9501 in ABS-CBN and Foodie Magazine.

"Believe me, sangkatutak na pagtatalo ang nangyari diyan." No wonder it came out what it is right now. Superb! Congratulations and Thank you for this bold move, and timely action, to put Philippine Cuisine and the Philippines on the map.

It is my dream and wish that I will be able to find all of the collaborators of this wonderful and vivid book and let them sign my copy. :)

Kulinarya, I believe, ran out of copies already, and is on its second run. Do check out your leading bookstores for copies of the book. Pray they still have one. Happy cooking this Christmas season!

Superbong's Superbowl Super Adventure

IMG-5256

We were asked to design plain white bowls (using markers and colored glues). Don, my friend, designed this very nice Star Wars/ Battle Star Galactica/ Star Trek meets ET and what not alien films inspired piece -- isn't it cool?!

IMG-5257

But this event wasn't just about designing bowls; instead, it was about the new addition to Superbowl's menu (available this Christmas season). This is the head chef on Trinoma Branch, working with fire in the kitchen.

IMG-5268

And this piece of baby is my favorite among the 4 different kinds of new addition to the menu. This picture is the Lechon Macau (deep fried pork belly cutlets with select Chinese spices, served with Hoisin sauce on the side). Delicious!

A copy of The Miele Guide (Your Guide to Asia's Finest Restaurant) 2008/2009 arrived the other day in my mail. Thanks to Ate Media and The Miele Guide team. Nice job for doing this! I like how handy they made it; plus the color is superb! You can get your own copy of the book at their site, or at leading bookstores (I wonder if Fully Booked or National Book Store has it already. Would anyone know?)

Take and Receive: The First Festival of Ateneo Music

In celebration of the University's second Sesquicentennial theme,

Deepening Spirituality

the Ateneo community is warmly invited to

TAKE AND RECEIVE: THE FIRST FESTIVAL OF ATENEO MUSIC

Sunday, 7 December 2008, 6:30PM
Church of the Gesù

FEATURING:

Ateneo Boys Choir (Daisy Marasigan, Conductor)
Ateneo Chamber Singers (Jonathan Velasco, Conductor)
Ateneo College Glee Club (Ma. Lourdes Hermo, Conductor)
Ateneo High School Glee Club (Jose Emmanuel Aquino, Conductor)
Dulaang Sibol (Dr. Onofre Pagsanghan, Managing Director)
Jesuit Music Ministry (Fr. JBoy Gonzales, SJ, Director): Blue Symphony, Bukas Palad, Himig Heswita & Musica Chiesa

AND

the premiere "Take and Receive" medley arrangement of RYAN CAYABYAB

Ateneo choirs to stage free thanksgiving concert for the community

On Sunday, 7 December 2008, 6:30PM, Ateneo's singing groups will treat the community to an evening of sacred, liturgical, and inspirational music through the concert, Take and Receive: The First Festival of Ateneo Music, at the Church of the Gesù, Ateneo Loyola Heights campus.

The concert gathers Ateneo's home grown and award-winning groups, the Ateneo Boys Choir, Ateneo High School Glee Club, Dulaang Sibol, Ateneo College Glee Club, and Ateneo Chamber Singers. They will perform with the Jesuit Music Ministry artists, Blue Symphony, Bukas Palad, Himig Heswita and Musica Chiesa. Distinguished Filipino musician and composer Ryan Cayabyab's medley arrangement of the different "Take and Receive" compositions by the Filipino Jesuits will be one of the highlights of the concert.

Fans and supporters of these Ateneo singing groups can expect to be regaled by the songs that have made these groups both distinct and popular, resonating Ateneo's fine musical legacy and the unique spirituality that inspires its music.

Dulaang Sibol is the Ateneo High School theater club founded and directed by Onofre Pagsanghan. Bukas Palad, meanwhile, was co-founded by Fr. Manoling Francisco, SJ 20 years ago. The Ateneo College Glee Club, the oldest university chorale in the country and winner in the 2006 Miltenberg (Germany) Choral Competition and Ateneo Chamber Singers, winner in the 2006 Tolosa (Spain) Choral Contest, will showcase their world-class talent in polyphony and classical music.

Another highlight of the concert is a tribute by the Jesuit Music Ministry artists to Fr. Eddie Hontiveros, SJ, or "Fr. Honti," the acknowledged Father of Philippine Liturgical Music, who passed away in January 2008. The Mass hymns that Fr. Honti composed in the 1970s, after the Second Vatican Council called for inculturation of the liturgy, continue to be sung in every parish to this day, an enduring testament to the intimacy of his music with the heart of the Filipino and the message of Jesus Christ.

Take and Receive: The First Festival of Ateneo Music marks the Ateneo's 149th anniversary, the year of "Deepening Spirituality," the second theme of a three-year countdown to Ateneo's 150th anniversary, or sesquicentennial. Ateneo de Manila University will celebrate its sesquicentennial on December 10, 2009 with the theme "Building the Nation."
